clam worm (alitta succinea)
Clam worms, or pile worms, of the genus Alitta, are a species of marine annelid in the family Nereididae, commonly known as ragworms or sand worms. They are generally found in the Northwest Atlantic.
As with all annelids, clam worms do not have a skeletal system, but have segmented bodies containing their vital systems. The clam worm can reach up to 15 centimetres (6 in) in length, but most specimens are smaller than this. It has an identifiable head with four eyes, two sensory feelers or palps, and many tentacles. The last body segment is known as the pygidium.
