BLUE WHALE (BELAENOPTERA MUSCULUS)
Blue whales, a member of the genus Belaenoptera, are the largest living organisms on the planet. Unfortunately, they are now endangered species due to hunting.
A blue whale's skeleton is very similar to that of other mammals, with the same general structure, but on a much, much larger scale. As the largest living organism on the Earth, the skeleton of the blue whale measures up as such. It is generally similar to a human's, although the pelvic and hind-limb bones are nearly nonexistent. The forelimbs constitute the flippers, and the arrangement of wrist and finger bones is remarkably similar to that of a human.
